Our commitment to a greener future.
Introduction
Exciting update: Cirencester Health Group continues green impact journey!
In 2023, Cirencester Health Group proudly achieved the green impact silver award, marking a significant milestone in our dedication to sustainable practices. As the healthcare sector is responsible for 4-5% of the UK’s carbon emissions, we recognise the pressing need for change. This commitment extends beyond accolades – it’s about actively contributing to a healthier planet while prioritising the well-being of current and future generations.
Why green matters
The climate emergency is unequivocally a health emergency. We believe that a greener approach not only addresses environmental concerns but can also improve individual health. Lifestyle changes such as adopting a plant-based diet, engaging in active travel, avoiding smoking, and reducing pollution not only enhance well-being but also have the potential to reduce the need for medications, benefiting both our community and the NHS.
Our green initiatives
Inspired by this commitment, we’re implementing changes across our practice:
- Greener energy choices and conservation:
- Adopting sustainable energy sources.
- Water conservation measures.
- Wellbeing support:
- Promoting activities that enhance mental and physical well-being.
- Fairtrade coffee and tea:
- Supporting ethical and sustainable practices.
- Solar panels installation:
- Harnessing clean energy for a greener tomorrow.
Your role in our green journey
You can actively contribute to our green initiatives:
- Consider greener inhalers:
- Learn about environmentally friendly inhaler options: Greener inhalers guide (PDF)
- Discuss options with our asthma nurse or pharmacist.
- Mindful medication requests:
- Request medication only when necessary.
- Check your medication before leaving the pharmacy to allow for reuse.
- Opt for green and active transport:
- We encourage both patients and staff to use active transport whenever possible. Cycling, walking, or taking public transportation not only benefits your physical and mental health but also helps to reduce air pollution, contributing to a healthier environment for everyone.
- To support this, we’ve installed bike racks at both of our sites for your convenience.
